Welcome to Mossrock Studio and Fine Art Gallery, a unique combination – a working ceramic studio and a contemporary fine art gallery.
The studio and gallery are located in the lush vegetation of the Woodlands just North of Houston. When entering the grounds you are struck by the beauty and serenity of the environment. Beyond a morterless bond rock wall and down a meandering stone path, you arrive at the gallery. Visitors feel comfortable and at ease. The space is clean and minimal, with a surprise or two, creating an interesting backdrop for the artwork on display.
With a variety of sculptural elements, sitting areas and a water feature outdoors, the originality of the gallery and the opportunity to see the artist at work in the studio will surely delight any visitor.

The gallery has work of over eleven artists in its collection in a large variety of media, from sculptural and functional ceramics to oil and acrylic paintings, watercolors, lithography and giclée prints. Styles vary from abstract to realistic, serene to intense, in terms of color and subject. Artists represented are well known regionally and some have national recognition.
The contemporary clean design of the gallery allows every object or painting to show well, either alone or as a grouping. The lighting is excellent as is the “nouveau warehouse look” with the stained concrete floors, exposed pipes, ducts and one large space with a floor to roof area.
Owner and featured artist Andrew Sankowski has created a vibrant and soothing space, not as “a shrine to himself”, but as a venue for other artists as well.

The concept of having a working ceramic studio definitely sets the gallery apart from other galleries.
After viewing the gallery, you walk through the glaze lab into a self contained studio, fully equipped with a glaze application area, several pottery wheels, clay-mixer, slab roller and extruder.
In the studio you can see pieces taking shape through sketches and maquettes. Discussions, exploring ideas, feasibility, logistics, engineering, surface finishes, etc. are all part of the “creating” process.
Successful and less successful examples of previous attempts, can be found on the studio shelves. These give constant visual feedback, allowing the work to evolve.

A variety of activities and events are scheduled during the year. First Fridays, demos and our participation in the Empty Bowls Project illustrate the sharing and bringing together of many communities.
In addition to scheduled events that are planned in advance, more spontaneous activities may occur, like raku-firings or show and tell pot-luck dinners.
The gallery space is also available to rent for private functions.

First Fridays
Every First Friday of the month the gallery is open late. During these extended hours visitors are welcome to meet the artists, view the art and enjoy food and refreshments. Each month introduces the work of a featured artist.
With two other galleries on the street participating, First Fridays have proven to be a fun occasion that brings the community together.
