About Us

WHO WE ARE

Operation Pets Alive (OPA) is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) animal welfare organization based in Montgomery County, TX. We are an all volunteer organization and do not have an actual shelter. We exist because there is a need. We are ABLE to operate because of donations and the dedication and hard work of our volunteers, fosters, business partners, sponsors and our adopters. All are people just like you, working together to make a difference. Won’t you consider joining us?
Operation Pets Alive stands behind its mission of working towards a no-kill community, by reducing the number of shelter intakes, and increasing live release rates and outcomes for the homeless pets of our county. We do this through a combination of our Programs:

Local Foster and Adoption Programs

Transport of local Shelter dogs to partnering Shelters and Rescues to the Northeast and other areas of our country (where there is a greater demand for adoptable dogs and a 99.9% save rate among our transports) through our OPA ’Flight for Life' and 'Pups on Trucks' Programs

Targeted Spay and Neuter Programs
Trap-Neuter-Return for feral cats on our community
OPA ’Cat-mobile’ transports to Austin Pets Alive!
‘The Great Catsby’ A cat cafe located in Old Town Spring

Join our OPA Team of Dedicated FOSTERS

Fostering saves lives. Operation Pets Alive has a fabulous group of dedicated fosters, but we are always looking to add to our Team. Fostering opportunities range from fostering a shelter pet for just two weeks, to ready it for transport, or fostering a pup or kitty to ready it for local adoption. Giving a needy pup or cat the opportunity to learn what it is like to be in a home again, is invaluable in readying it for adoption. We have a great group of seasoned fosters that would love to talk to you, and help guide you through the process. OPA can help you find that perfect foster fit for your home and lifestyle.

2-Week Fosters Needed!

Can you consider fostering a dog for just 2 weeks? Operation Pets Alive routinely makes pulls from our local shelters. All candidates are assessed by OPA for good temperaments and more. Candidates range from young puppies to adult dogs. Giving a home to one or more of these deserving pups for just two weeks, helps ready them for the next leg of their journey. Transport candidates are sent to our partnering shelters and rescues in the Northeast, where there is a greater demand for adoptable dogs, and our transport candidates realize a 99.9% save rate. Our ‘Pups on Trucks’ takes dogs by ground transportation, while our ‘Flight for Life’ delivers them by air. All vetting is provided by Operation Pets Alive, and if food or other items are necessary for your foster pup, we can supply that too. Two weeks of your time literally saves the life of one deserving homeless pup.

Take a video peek at one of our earliest ‘Flight for Life’ preparations: http://www.operationpetsalive.org/programs-cloud-nine-rescue.php

Please email us today, if you would like to join our OPA Team of Fosters: info@operationpetsalive.org

Unable to Foster? Consider Sponsoring a Transport Candidate!
$250 covers OPA costs for one deserving transport candidate, but any donation amount is appreciated!

Targeted SPAY and NEUTER Program

OPA’s targeted Spay/Neuter program partners with various non-profits in our community, in an organized effort to help reduce the overwhelming numbers of dogs and puppies coming into our Conroe and Montgomery County Animal Shelters each and every day. At the present time, nearly 50-60% of all animals entering our shelters do not make it out alive! Some are adopted, some temporarily fostered, or go to rescue groups. However, those remaining are at risk of euthanasia due to limited space. Many of these are very adoptable and would make wonderful family companions. Their fate is determined however by the alarming numbers our shelters see as intakes.

The number one cause for this horrendous problem is the lack of education, and spay and neutering solutions for our community’s pet populations. Limited, low-cost surgery options, and transportation issues add to the challenges for those in our low-income areas (where a huge majority of these animals are coming from). OPA works with our partners to provide low-cost surgery vouchers for these people, and assist with transportation. Here is where we desperately need volunteers to help!

TRAP-NEUTER-RETURN for Feral Community Cats

OPA is committed to reducing the number of cats that enter our shelters, especially those that end up labeled as ‘feral’, thereby significantly reducing any chances of adoption, and most likely ending in euthanasia. Our TNR (trap-neuter-return) program addresses these cats that live otherwise healthy and natural lives in feral cat communities, with the exception of over-breeding and reproduction. Feral cats are humanely trapped, vaccinated, sterilized and returned to their colonies. If there are young cats or kittens present, or friendly adults, OPA foster families take them in to help socialize them and ready them for adoption into loving homes. TNR helps stabilize the size of feral cat colonies by eliminating new litters. It reduces nuisance behavior among these cats, allowing managed colonies to prevent unaltered males from moving in and starting another breeding cycle. You can read more about TNR at: http://www.alleycat.org

‘THE GREAT CATSBY’ Cat Cafe
Cat Cafes began as all the rage in Japan, where populations and dwellings limited pet ownership, yet a desire to interact with cats in an informal setting, fueled the move. Operation Pets Alive’s ‘The Great Catsby’ is a unique pop-up event run by volunteers. The Cafe is open by event only, and offers a relaxing way to interact with adoptable cats for a small, hourly fee, which helps support our OPA cat programs. Most events are hosted in Old Town Spring, where we set up in a conference room of Spirit Quest, 303 Main St., Spring, TX, 77373.

The cat cafe offers a unique opportunity to relax, sip coffee, and interact with our kitties. Cat-themed hand crafted goods (beds, toys, etc), are on hand for purchase, along with our classic Great Catsby T-shirts. All proceeds from our merchandise supports the programs of Operation Pets Alive.

The Cafe does not serve food, but food can be ordered from a nearby restaurant, or you may bring your own. We also have a large, screened ‘The Great Catsby’ tent, which is set up at various off-site adoption events. To look for ‘The Great Catsby’s next big event, follow their Facebook Page here: http://www.facebook.com/TheGreatCatsbyTX/
