FRISCO, Texas – There was local flavor in the NCAA Football Division I Championship Game on Saturday afternoon, where the North Dakota State Bisons defended their title with a 39-13 victory over Sam Houston State University Bearkats in a rematch of the 2011 finals.
College Park High School graduate Trey Diller turned in a 100-yard day for Sam Houston State. The senior wide receiver caught four passes for 46 yards, including a 20-yarder from sophomore quarterback Chris Grett, an Oak Ridge High School graduate.
Diller also returned three kickoffs for a total of 60 yards. Grett to Diller was the former War Eagles’ only completion in three attempts in a backup role. He also rushed twice for two yards. For the 2012 season, Grett completed 7-of-10 passes for 90 yards. He also rushed for 198 yards and four touchdowns.
In his final season at Sam Houston State, Diller scored six touchdowns, including two rushing scores. He totaled nine touchdowns in his Bearkats career. Diller led the team in pass receptions this season with 62 catches for 927 yards and four touchdowns.
