THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Rescued off the streets of Houston in 2006, Rummy, a blind Siberian Husky, found his way into the home of Lisa Goebel and the hearts of many. Rummy won the 2007 Purina Pro Plan Rally and gained national attention and admiration. Rummy suffered from progressive retinal degeneration, leaving him blind.

Today, despite his glaucoma, Rummy thrives and has made appearances across the United States. He became Lisa Goebel’s inspiration for Rummy’s Beach Club, a dog swimming facility in Spring, TX. Rummy’s Beach Club is dedicated to helping dogs and educating their owners with warm water dog swimming.

Goebel, an animal lover and former Physician’s Assistant, has adopted 5 rescue dogs, including Rummy, that all reside in her home. Her passion for helping people and animals shines through her spacious and clean facility. In addition to using the pool in the summer, it can be covered with an air-tight dome for year round usage.

Rummy’s Beach Club offers hourly swimming for dogs and their owners by appointment. And with plenty of yard space, Rummy’s Beach Club is also treated as a small dog park. Goebel has expertly fenced in the property making it almost impossible for a Houdini-like escape act.

This warm water facility benefits issues dogs face with arthritis, muscle injuries, post-surgery, hip dysplasia, depression, obesity, neuropathy, and amputations. Rummy’s Beach Club is also equipped with dog life jackets to teach dogs how to swim; as well as being perfect for conditioning and training for United Kennel Club recognized sports such as dock jumping and flyball.

Dubbed by the Houston PetTalk3 Magazine in 2010 and 2011 as “Houston’s #1 Dog Swimming Facility,” Rummy’s is the perfect place to witness the many beneficial properties of warm water swimming, while also serving as a place for a little summer fun. Rummy’s Beach Club offers a 10% discount to pitbulls, who Lisa says, often receive negative connotations for no apparent reason. This discount also extends to service dogs, search and rescue dogs, and therapy dogs. Lisa Goebel and Rummy are true inspirations to animal lovers and those working to end animal neglect and abuse.
