THE WOODLANDS, Texas--A group of teenage volleyball girls, from Xtreme Volleyball Club, are planning on stinking it up during a week-long shower strike to raise money to build water systems in Africa. The fundraiser stems from Well Aware, an Austin-based nonprofit that works to bring clean water to impoverished communities in Africa. The fundraiser began March 22 and will end March 29th.

According to Well Aware, every $15 raised provides clean water to one person for up to 30 years.

The Cuadra family has participated in the shower strike for four years, and her teenage daughter has convinced her volleyball friends to join her for the last two years. They formed a team for the Shower Strike called The Xtremely Stinky Team.

More than 60% of existing water wells in Africa currently do not work, but 100% of Well Aware's water systems work, and because of that partner communities are thriving and lives are being saved. This year with the Shower Strike fundraiser, Well Aware will bring clean water systems to Nyakio, Exrock, and Emening Kenya.

It may seem ridiculous to not shower after a several volleyball games, but when you hear children are dying because they don’t have clean water, you realize that’s what is really ridiculous. That is why this group of teenage volleyball girls decided to join the outrageous, unique and easy fundraiser. They currently have $2245 and have set a goal of $3000.
