CISD students report and write wonderful stories about the great things happening on their campuses, and we want to spread the good news! The Communications Office coordinates with secondary campuses to cover stories from a student's point-of-view. All "Student Stories" are submitted by junior high or high school students.

THE WOODLANDS, Texas--I am a cheerleader at McCullough Junior High School. Over the Christmas break, I had the very rare opportunity to do something that I never imagined I would be chosen for. I got to be interviewed and do a photo-shoot for Inside Cheer Magazine.

While attending a cheer competition, I was approached by a representative of the magazine who said she’d been watching my performances both at my gym and at my competitions. She said that they wanted me for a story and photo spread. Inside Cheer Magazine, is one that I read all the time so needless to say, I was very excited.

First, we did the interview. They wanted to know all about how I got into the sport and why I love it. I’ve been in cheer and tumbling classes since I was a little kid and I’ve worked really hard to get to the level of competition that I’m at. I also do school cheer so I get a lot of practice in on a weekly basis. Besides the time at school, I go to my team gym six nights a week, and often have private lessons or special practices for choreography , so it all adds up. The gym I belong to is called Texas LoneStar Cheer Company and I have lots of friends there and some outstanding coaches so even though it’s hard work, I love being there.

The day of the photo-shoot came and it promised to be a long, but fun day. I was amazed at all of the trouble they were going to for me. I had a hairstylist to do my hair. She did different things depending on what I was wearing in each set of pictures and I also had a makeup artist who did the same. It was a lot of fun going through all of the different looks and being styled. I felt like a celebrity for the day. The magazine people were so nice to me and it was thrilling to go through it and to feel so important representing the sport that I love. I’ve always hoped that I could be a role model and leader and now I’m being recognized in my favorite sport.

This experience is something that I will never forget and I know that all of my hard work was worth it. I’ve dreamed of this day since I was four and now I’m living it!
