CISD Water Polo Team Has Strong Showing in Tournament
THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- This past weekend Conroe I.S.D. formed a boys water polo team that played in the Annual Ben Garcia Water Polo Tournament, April 24-26. The team consisted of players from The Woodlands, College Park, and Oak Ridge high school. The team was led by Head Coach Mike Porter and assistant coach Dave Partenheimer.
On Thursday night, the team started strong by beating Pearland(13-8) and Galveston Ball(10-6). Then on Saturday night the team faced a win or go home scenario. Clear Creek was the first team to fall and put the C.I.S.D. team in the semi-final game against Cy-Creek.
In the game against Cy-Creek the starters really started to gel in the 3rd period and ended up winning by 7 goals. In the final game, C.I.S.D. faced Clear Lake, led by Tom Langraf (Coach Porters former high school coach). Clear Lake scored fast and early, within the first 9 seconds! At halftime, Clear Lake was leading 3-1.
C.I.S.D. came back strong in the second half to take the lead 5-4 late in the 4th period. In the final minute, Clear Lake tied it up to force a sudden death overtime. In the end, Clear Lake drew a penalty shot to seal the win. The team from C.I.S.D. had only two seniors play in the Ben Garcia Tournament, so they will have a lot to look forward to next year.
