Lifeguards Win Big at Superguard Competition

THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Community Associations of the Woodlands’ lifeguards started off another successful competition season by winning the 26th Annual Texas Superguard Competition. Twenty-six Woodlands lifeguards participated at the event in College Station, Texas, on July 7.

This is the fourth time The Woodlands has won the team competition and the eighth time to win the individual Superguard title. The individual events included active water rescue, CPR, first aid, spinal victim rescue, and an integrated problem for lifeguards placing in the top three. The team events included rescue relay, spinal management, and an integrated problem.

By placing in the top three positions, the teams qualified for the 2009 Texas Public Pool Council State Championship in San Antonio, Texas, at the end of July.

Team Placings:
• 1st place: Stephen Hill (Zone Supervisor), Sean Helster (Head Lifeguard at Creekwood), Katherine Whitaker (Pool Supervisor at Cranebrook), and Erica Hill (Pool Supervisor at Windvale)
• 3rd place: Cristina Hamme (Head Lifeguard at Rob Fleming), Maria Garcia (Head Lifeguard at Ridgewood), Colin Leach (Lifeguard at Shadowbend), and John Reavis (Lifeguard at Falconwing)

Individual Placings:
• 1st place, male: Stephen Hill (Zone Supervisor)
• 2nd place, male: Sean Helster (Head Lifeguard at Creekwood)
• 2nd place, female: Erica Hill (Pool Supervisor at Windvale)
