THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Could your Montgomery County Charity benefit from the change dropped in Market Street’s voluntary parking meters? Market Street is currently accepting applications for its 2009 Change for Charities program, a community effort that allows a different charity to benefit from the nickels, dimes and quarters deposited into Market Street's parking meters.

Each year, four non-profits are selected to participate in the program to receive a percentage of the funds collected from the 68 voluntary parking meters during a three-month period. At the end of each quarter, a check presentation is scheduled to bestow the donation.

“Even though the program is voluntary, participation funding the program has been fantastic,” says Market Street Activities Coordinator, Jenny Taylor.

Non-profits interested in applying for the 2009 program should visit the Market Street Web site to download the application. All forms must be submitted by October 15. Those applying must furnish proof of tax-exempt status and meet the following eligibility requirements:

• Completed application, which includes information that will clarify the type of non-profit, level of need, and efficiency of operation.
• The non-profit must be either a local chapter or a national organization that benefits Montgomery County.
• The non-profit should not exist solely for the completion of a special project.

Since its inception, Market Street’s Change for Charities program has contributed more than $33,000 to the following non-profits:

• Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion Performing Arts
• Conroe ISD Education Foundation
• Montgomery County Women’s Center
• Montgomery County Youth Services (MCYS)
• Montgomery County Performing Arts Society
• Montgomery County Family Outreach
• The Montgomery County Food Bank
• CASA Child Advocates of Montgomery County
• Heart of Montgomery County Inc.
• Assistance League of Montgomery County
• The National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI)
