The Woodlands Earth Day Festival on Saturday
THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- The Woodlands Earth Day Festival will celebrate its 20th anniversary on Saturday, April 10, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Woodlands High School.
“Whether you are 15, 35 or 50, your formative years have been influenced by Earth Day,” said Lynne Aldrich, festival spokesperson and manager of the Environmental Services Department at The Woodlands Township.
The longest running Earth Day event in the greater Houston region, The Woodlands Earth Day Festival attracts more than 7,000 attendees each year, according to Aldrich. “The festival offers eco-exploration and entertainment with a ‘street fair’ atmosphere,” she notes.
More than 70 booths and activities will spotlight nature, eco-trends and resource conservation. Displays with live snakes, butterflies and tortoises will provide hands-on experiences with wildlife.
“It’s a day for individuals and families to rediscover their connection to the environment,” Aldrich said.
Other interactive exhibits will highlight eco- solutions for home and garden. Electric vehicles, rainwater harvesting and green building organizations will take a look at the future of resource conservation.
Refreshments, native plants, cloth shopping bags, fair trade teas, coffee, chocolate and other earth-friendly products will be for sale from non-profit organizations and green businesses.
Organized by The Woodlands Township and The Woodlands G.R.E.E.N., Earth Day is hosted by Conroe Independent School District. The festival and most activities are free of charge due to sponsorships by Waste Management, The Woodlands Development Company, Printing Plus, The Woodlands Joint Powers Agency, Anadarko, H-E-B and others.
