Woodlands Men’s Lacrosse Varsity Beats Cinco Ranch, Remains Undefeated
THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- The Woodlands Men’s Varsity Lacrosse team came away with another win Saturday at home to move their record to 4-0 (2-0 in district) in a 16-6 win against Cinco Ranch. Credit goes to the Cinco Ranch team and Coach. Their program is a relatively new one that has taken the step up to D1 play this year.
? Junior middie Chase Rogers had a fantastic game with 3 goals, won 7 of 8 face offs and was the ground ball king with 8. Junior attack Jackson LaPlant (4 goals and 2 assists) and sophomore attack Bucky Desedier (2 goals and 4 assists) shared the high point man honors with 6 each. Sophomore attack Ian Seale was nipping at their heels with 5 points on 2 goals and 3 assists. Senior middie C J Conlon dished out 3 assists. Sophomore middie Connor Milton had two assists and freshman middie Connor Pryor scored 2 goals. Senior middie Owen Corn, freshman middie Cole Little, junior middie Zack Stewart and junior middie Luke Anderson all had single goals. Junior middie Erik Gorman and sophomore attack Spencer Willey each had an assist to round out the scoring for The Woodlands. The Woodlands won 18 of 24 face offs and only failed to clear the ball twice the entire game.
The 1st quarter started out promising for The Woodlands as Desedier fed LaPlant for the 1st goal of the evening with 11:45 to play. LaPlant then dished an assist to Rogers at the 10:39 mark and The Woodlands was up 2-0. Cinco Ranch, however, came right back with 2 goals of their own. Their first came with 10:06 left on a man up situation. The 2nd came with 6:57 left to tie the score at 2-2. Ian Seale then assisted Owen Corn for a goal with 6:14 left to make it 3-2. Cinco Ranch again answered by scoring a goal with 5:18 left and the score was tied again at 3-3.
The Woodlands scored the next two goals when Desedier again fed LaPlant for a goal at the 3:32 mark and C J Conlon found Rogers open for a goal with 2:09 left in the 1st to end the scoring and provide The Woodlands with a 5-3 lead.
The Woodlands got things started in the 2nd when Milton found Zack Stewart open near the goal and he banged it in at the 10:51 mark for a 6-3 lead. Cinco would not go away and answered back with a goal of their own with 3:11 left to make it 6-4. The Woodlands scored the last goal of the half when Ian Seale added the first of his 2 goals (assisted by Spencer Willey) with 3 minutes left in the half for a Woodlands lead of 7-4 midway through the game.
The Woodlands finally started to pull away in the 3rd. Seale hit Desedier for a goal early with only 50 seconds gone in the3rd for an 8-4 lead. Cinco Ranch scored at the 8:55 mark and The Woodlands then proceeded to reel off 6 unanswered goals. Desedier hit LaPlant for the third time in the game at the 7:14 mark, Conlon dished to Desedier for a goal with 4:49 to play in the 3rd, LaPlant dished to Seale for a goal at the 4:04 mark, Seale then dished to Desedier for another goal at the 3:09 mark and Desedier in turn dished to freshman Connor Pryor who found the back of the net with 2:13 to play in the 3rd. The 6th straight goal of the 3rd quarter was scored by freshman Cole Little with a dish from Erik Gorman with 1:17 left in the 3rd and The Woodlands now had a commanding lead at 14-5.
The 4th quarter was a low scoring affair as Cinco got on the board first with a goal at the 5:34 mark. The Woodlands then scored twice when Conlon assisted Pryor for a goal with 2:38 to play and junior middie Luke Anderson got on the board (assisted by Milton) with 1:59 to go in the 4th. The final score was 16-6 in favor of The Woodlands.
Senior Defensemen Kevin Kohli, Patrick Whelan, Michael Rizzuti and Erik Espino played well for The Woodlands as did sophomore LSM Nate Kaufman. Sophomore Derek Koett and Junior Chris Howell performed admirably at goal.
