THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- This year's Montgomery County Heart Ball yielded another success as it raised over $500,000 for the American Heart Association.

Held on Saturday, Feb. 27, the event was themed "Cirque du Coeur" (Circus of the Heart) and many ladies and gentlemen opened their hearts during the elegant extravaganza as they enjoyed a unique fundraising approach in which guests purchased a wrist band to play a variety of action-packed carnival-themed games to win fabulous prizes. The wrist bands, coupled with an exciting live auction emceed by Nelda Luce Blair, resulted in a successful fundraising event this year.

Benefiting the American Heart Association‚s Montgomery County Division, the annual popular gala raises funds to support lifesaving research and educational programs to fight cardiovascular disease and stroke. The American Heart Association (AHA) is a national volunteer health organization whose sole mission is to reduce death and disability from heart disease and stroke. Heart disease is the number one killer of Americans and stroke is number three.

Co-chaired by Judy Larson, Senior Vice President of Private Banking for Woodforest National Bank, and Richie Ray, R. Ph., president and CEO of Richie‚s Specialty Pharmacy, the top sponsors of this year‚s Heart Ball included W. Steve Bozeman and Richie‚s Specialty Pharmacy. Other sponsors included Woodforest National Bank, as well as Memorial Hermann The Woodlands, Texas Children‚s Hospital, Jim and Nelda Luce Blair, and Aramark Healthcare.

"Thanks to all of our wonderful sponsors and committee members who volunteered their time and talent, we were able to throw a very successful heart ball!" said Judy Larson. "The gala was a huge success and the carnival concept worked extremely well. The guests literally had a ball playing games and winning prizes."

Richie Ray echoed, "To see the phenomenal turn out we had and the willing hearts to help others, especially in a down economy, was most encouraging. This community consistently steps up to the plate to help those in need and this evening‚s event was no different. I am so proud to be in Montgomery County and to be involved with a wonderful organization such as the American Heart Association."

Megan Crawford, AHA Corporate Market Director, added,"Since its start, the Montgomery County Heart Ball has raised over $2.3 million in support of lifesaving research and educational programs to fight cardiovascular disease and stroke. Thanks to our wonderful chairs and committee members, this year was the most successful Heart Ball to date!"
