The Woodlands High School boys' basketball team waited an extra day before defeating Lufkin 64-35 on the road Wednesday.

In a game originally scheduled for Tuesday, but postponed because of loss of electricity to the gym, The Woodlands led early and then cruised to an easy victory.

The Highlanders had in the history of the program won only once before at Lufkin, and that was last year. They made it two in a row after jumping out to an 18-7 lead that was extended to a 34-16 advantage at halftime.

Jordan Alpha scored 15 points and Brian Nordstrom added 11 more as the Highlanders improved to 25-3 overall and 8-0 in District 14-5A play.

Lufkin falls to 3-6 in the district.

Weather permitting, The Woodlands is scheduled to host Oak Ridge on Friday at 7 p.m. The War Eagles (18-9, 6-3) are in second place behind The Woodlands, and a half-game in front of 5-3 Kingwood.

College Park (22-10, 4-4), scheduled to play at Conroe (0-9) Friday, holds sole possession of fourth place in the district standings, a half-game in front of 4-5 Atascocita.
