THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- The John Cooper School National Art Honor Society (NAHS) is sponsoring the 7th Annual Empty Bowls Project, that provides the opportunity to share a lunch, take home a piece of art and help fight hunger in our community.
Seeks Community Help to Combat Hunger

“Our local community has helped us raise over $38,000 in the last six years,” said Faculty Sponsor Jayla Ash Davis. “This year’s goal is to raise $10,000 and we hope everyone will join us to make this goal a reality.”

Members of the community are invited to attend the 7th Annual Empty Bowls Project, to be held on Saturday, February 25 from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in The John Cooper School Student Center. “The $10 admission fee includes a simple meal of soup, bread, water and a handmade ceramic bowl to take home as a reminder of your contribution in the fight against hunger,” Davis explained. 'We hope everyone will invite a friend or neighbor and join us for lunch.' The ceramic bowls are created by Cooper students in Grades PK4-12 as well as faculty and staff members. A silent art auction will also be held, featuring bowls made by local artists of all ages.

Proceeds from the event have been designated for the Interfaith Food Pantry, with a portion earmarked for the Imagine Render Group to enable the continuation of the Empty Bowls Project on an annual basis. An art educator in Michigan initiated the Empty Bowls Project in 1990 as a class project to make ceramic bowls for a fundraising meal. Since then, Empty Bowls events have been held throughout the world, and millions of dollars have been raised to combat hunger.

Reservation forms are posted as a Helpful Download on the School News page of the Cooper website. The NAHS is seeking community involvement in the event, including donations of soup, bread and water. Local artists are also encouraged to donate to the silent auction portion. For more information contact Jayla Ash Davis at 281-367-0900 ext. 2304.
