The Woodlands turns back Oak Ridge
THE WOODLANDS, Texas – It was evident that after an 11-0 run to complete the first quarter Friday, The Woodlands High School girls’ basketball team wasn’t messing around. The No. 14 state-ranked Lady Highlanders improved to 28-2 on the season with a 73-33 victory over visiting Oak Ridge.
The Woodlands also pushed its District 14-5A record to 11-0. Having already clinched the district championship, the Lady Highlanders go for the clean sweep on Tuesday in the regular season finale at Kingwood.
Anna Strickland pumped in 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds while Kelsey Lang turned in a double-double, scoring 10 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Paige Bradley and Ashlyn Hargraves contributed 12 and 11 points respectively.
The Woodlands used a 20-7 third-quarter run to put the game out of reach and closed out with a 23-9 advantage over the final eight minutes.
Tatiana Jackson scored eight points for Oak Ridge, which slipped to 3-8 in district play.
College Park went on the road Friday to claim a 54-36 victory at Conroe. Alexia Sanders poured in 24 points and Uma Rajagopalan added 12 more. The Lady Cavaliers led 17-12 at the quarter and needed a 17-8 fourth-quarter run to pull away.
The victory lifted College Park to 8-3 in District 14-5A play. The Lady Cavaliers host Atascocita at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the regular season finale. A victory would pull College Park into a tie with Atascocita for second place behind The Woodlands.
Kingwood clinched the fourth and final District 14-5A playoff berth.
