State track: Jensen sets record

AUSTIN, Texas – College Park High School track standout Katie Jensen won the state championship in the 3,200 and in doing so set a state record with a time of 10 minutes, 24.80 seconds at the UIL Class 5A Track and Field State Meet at Mike Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin.

The Woodlands High School distance runner Madi McLellan was second in 10:26.05. McLellan also took second in the 1,600 (4:53.50) and gained her second silver medal at the state meet. Jensen finished third and added a bronze medal with a time of 4:54.04.

The Woodlands High School also produced a state champion when Katie Willard raced to the title in the 800 with a time of 2:10.31.

The Oak Ridge High School track team also produced a medal winner at the state meet. N’Dia Warren-Jaques placed third in the shot put with a throw measuring 43-03.75.

The Woodlands boys’ team had two athletes win medals at the state meet. Brigham Hedges earned the silver medal, racing second in the 1,600 with a time of 4:10.07. Hedges also finished eighth (9:26.67) in the 3,200.

Eric Janise brought home a bronze medal after placing third (47-08.75) in the triple jump. He narrowly missed a second medal, running fourth (47.60) in the 400.

Kenneth Legassey also scored points at the state meet, finishing fifth (6-8) in the high jump.

College Park’s Tristen Newman placed fifth (54-11.50) in the shot put.
