A guide to Ironman Texas traffic and detours

THE WOODLANDS, Texas –– Ironman Texas is almost upon us and while for many that means sweat, blood and tears it also means something else: traffic.
Race will affect certain roads all day May 19.


The routes for the run and bicycling portions of the triathlon will affect roads in The Woodlands from about 7:30 a.m. to well after midnight, May 19. Here are some of the recommended detours:

Grogan’s Mill Road - southbound, from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and noon to 5:30 p.m.: Drivers can take Lake Woodlands Drive to Six Pines Drive, Six Pines to Timberloch and then on to Grogan’s Mill Road.

Grogan’s Mill Road - northbound: Take Timberloch to Six Pines and then turn onto Woodlands Parkway.

Lake Robbins Drive - westbound: Unrestricted until Six Pines Drive. Follow directions for Grogan’s Mill Road north or southbound.

Best way to enter Market Street: Along Lake Woodlands Drive, Six Pines Drive and Grogan’s Mill Road.

Flint Ridge Drive - From Woodlands Parkway to Gosling Road, 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.: Vehicular traffic can go westbound; Eastbound traffic not permitted.

Residents south of Panther Creek Drive, 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.: Take Gosling Road southbound; take Glenloch Drive to Sawdust Road and then to Grogan’s Mill Road or Interstate 45.
