Basketball: Boys remain active over Holiday Break

THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Holiday Break is somewhat of a foreign concept for high school boys’ basketball teams. The Holiday Break continues through the end of the week with a full slate of games.

The Woodlands High School boys’ basketball team travels to Cy-Lakes for a 2 p.m. Monday non-district game. The Highlanders (16-5) return to District 14-5A play at 7 p.m. Friday in Lufkin. They return home for a 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7 game with Team NPIRE from Australia.

The Woodlands took third place over the weekend at the 2012 Insperity Holiday Classic in Kingwood by defeating Nimitz 73-59. Garret Colonna earned all-tournament honors. Victories over Cy-Springs (80-65) and Del Valle (75-48) and an overtime loss to Atascocita (59-54) were also tournament results.

The Oak Ridge High School boys’ basketball team visits Klein for a 2 p.m. Thursday non-district game before returning home for a 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, District 14-5A contest with Conroe.

The War Eagles (10-10) dropped two of three games at the 48th Annual Conroe Christmas Classic. Oak Ridge lost a 49-45 heartbreaker to Dekaney in the opener before bouncing back for an 82-66 victory over MacArthur. Tanner Doyel scored 16 points in the win while Josh Caldwell added 13 points and Luken Baker and Bryan Lehmann contributed 11 points each.

A 69-63 loss to Pasadena Memorial completed tournament play.

The College Park High School boys’ basketball team visits Navasota for a 1:30 p.m. Monday non-district game at Navasota. The Cavaliers return to District 14-5A play at 7 p.m. Friday when they visit Conroe.

The Cavaliers won three of four games over the weekend at the Leander Christmas Classic. Desmond Fleming and Bryon Makel earned all-tournament team honors.

College Park earned victories over McCallum (81-53), Stony Point (76-73) and Cedar Ridge (57-48) with a 53-45 loss to Georgetown the only setback.
