THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- The Woodlands Twirling Academy “Home of the Texas Twirlers” ended their 2012-2013 season with major sweeps at regional competitions. Throughout the year, the Texas Twirlers have performed at various competitions, festivals, games, parades and events. They performed at the Woodlands Children’s Festival, Lighting of the Doves, the Barbara Bush Elementary festival, The Woodlands High School girls basketball half-time, and the Magnolia Christmas Parade to name a few.

Competing at the Twirltacular Extravanganza Grand Championships of Texas hosted on May 4th in Katy, Texas, the Texas Twirlers brought home 5 team awards, as well as over 25 individual First Place trophies. The Woodlands Twirling Academy also received 14 Twirling Championship Titles.

The USTA Texas State Championships were hosted in Cameron, Texas on April 27th. At the championship the Texas Twirlers were awarded top team. There were also 44 individual placements, which is a great accomplishment as some of the twirlers have been twirling for less than a year.

Director Sue Young is proud of the smiles and hard work of her students, showing their family and friends that they can accomplish any task.

"I am so very proud of my students!" Young said. "I have watched girls walk in to my studio not having any knowledge of what a baton is to walking away from a performance at a talent show or a competition with the biggest smile you have ever seen! It doesn't take much for me to be reminded why I love teaching these young ladies!"

The Woodlands Twirling Academy in its 6th year is led under the direction of Coach Young. Coach Young twirled competitively for 14 years in the NBTA, winning over 200 competitive awards, including several advanced championship titles. She was a feature twirler in New Mexico and California. The Texas Twirlers range from ages 6 to 16 learn to twirl for fun, for high school or college, or for a competitive stage.

Summer Camps are available throughout the summer for brand new twirlers or twirlers who want to step up their skills. The twirlers will be twirling in the 4th of July parade this summer.
