Coaches talk 14-5A football

CONROE, Texas – Head football coaches from the four Conroe ISD schools and another from A&M Consolidated met on Wednesday to discuss the upcoming season at the 38th Annual Buddy Moorhead 14-5A Pigskin Preview, sponsored by the Conroe Noon Lions Club and held at the Lone Star Convention Center.

Conroe High School football new head coach, Robert Walker, talked about the thrill of taking the reins of the Tigers’ program and restoring the roar. He praised the leadership qualities of returning quarterback Stedman Bell and also brought with and displayed the new football helmets the Tigers will wear for the 2013 season.

The Woodlands High School football head coach Mark Schmid recognized the Highlanders’ top returning players, including junior Patrick Carr, the school’s first-ever 2,000-yard rusher, center and team captain Tyler Rapp, and the battle for the quarterback position between Dylan Larsen and Chris Andritsos.

Oak Ridge High School football head coach Dereck Rush, in his second season at the helm of the War Eagles, emphasized building character within the program and taking it to the next level.

College Park High School football head coach Richard Carson noted that the goals for the Cavaliers were like those of the other teams in the district; to make the playoffs. Carson said his defense would be the key to that plan.
