Oak Ridge Senior QB - Jacob Norton

Oak Ridge Senior Jacob Norton in the season opener versus Cy-Falls completed 5 of 5 passes for 81 yards and a 30-yard touchdown pass to Jarmarquis Durst in the War Eagles 37-16 win over the Cy-Falls Eagles.

Norton enjoys hanging out with his friends and family in his spare time, when he’s not doing his homework. Norton is a former home run derby champion and enjoys his mother’s hamburgers as his “good-luck meal,” but does not consider himself superstitious. Jacob enjoys watching Burn Notice on TV and his favorite subject has been, “Math because I’ve always enjoyed dealing with numbers,” Norton said. Jacob hasn’t chosen a college yet, but has stated that, “I want to be a teacher and a coach. My Mom is a teacher and I look up to all the coaches that I’ve had, so hopefully I can follow in their footsteps.”

The Woodlands Senior OH - Madison McDaniel

The Woodlands Senior Outside Hitter Madison McDaniel tallied a total of 26 kills to help the Highlanders to a 2-0 week last week defeating Kingwood 3-1 and Tomball 3-0, respectively. Madison has helped lead her team to a 23-0 overall record and a number 1 overall state ranking in Class 5A. “We want to go to state and we know that we have the talent.” said McDaniel.

McDaniel, who has been playing volleyball since 3rd grade, has a secret handshake before each game of each match that her and another teammate do as their pre-game ritual. Another ritual that has turned into a tradition, McDaniel is part of the “Quad Squad” that goes out to dinner before home games. Madison’s favorite TV show is “Pretty Little Liars,” and her favorite meal is “Chipotle.” Madison has committed to play volleyball at Arizona State University next year.
