Local women’s tennis team to compete nationally

THE WOODLANDS, Texas—The Woodlands’ Racquettes won the Texas Section Championship of the United States Tennis Association (USTA) 3.5 Age 18 and Over division held in Dallas, recently, and advance to the national competition in Tucson, Ariz., Oct. 25-27.

The Racquettes are currently undefeated (19-0) including matches from the local season throughout the Section Championships.

Renee Atkinson, North Houston (NoHo) USTA league coordinator, said of the team, “They are a great group of women who take the sport seriously but still exemplify great sportsmanship and always have a lot of fun while doing so. To win the way they did - 10-0 in regular season, 3-0 in local playoffs, and 6-0 at the Section Championships, is almost unheard of.

“I was so proud to have them represent NoHo USTA in Dallas and I know they will represent us well in Tucson.”

Team members include: Robyn Kralich (captain), Elizabeth Roberts (co-captain), Lisa Blanchard, Tracy Cassady, Sharon Callahan, Robin Gawronska, Yvonne Grouls, Rosanna Guzman, Charlene Hansen, Seema Hede, Dee Huie, Teresa Manherz, Sharon Saucier, Valeria Vizcardo (all of The Woodlands), Catherine Blevins of Katy, Texas and Diva Davis of Houston.
