CONROE - Victoria Harris had 23 kills and Jackie Ward had 47 assists to lead the Oak Ridge War Eagles to a 25-19, 22-25, 25-13, 21-25, 15-9 win at the Conroe Tigerettes Tuesday night.

Oak Ridge survived the bevy of unforced errors being committed by both teams as the match went to 5 games. In Games 1, 3, and 5, the War Eagles (22-6, 2-1), got out to fast starts and Conroe could not make enough plays to get back into those sets. In Games 2 and 4, the War Eagles seemingly couldn’t get out of their own way as Conroe (14-16, 1-3) got out to fast starts and capitalized on Oak Ridge’s mistakes.

“All of our mistakes were in a row, that’s what is most upsetting to me is when we make mistakes and get ourselves down, and we’ve done that so much,” said Oak Ridge Head Coach Tommie Sledge. “It was almost like two different teams from the left-side of the court to the right-side of the court,” said Sledge.

Leading one game to none, Conroe jumped out to a 8-1 lead in Game 2, only to see the War Eagles storm back to tie it at 8-8. A couple of quick runs by each team saw Oak Ridge pull within two at 16-18. Errors continued to dampen Oak Ridge’s offense as Conroe took Game 2, 25-22.

Game 3 saw the War Eagles get out to a fast start as they jumped out to a 10-4 lead and extended the lead to 18-9 at the second timeout. Back to back kills by Victoria Harris and Kylie Laird saw the lead get to 20-11 as Oak Ridge found an offensive rhythm that Conroe could not match as the War Eagles took Game 3, 25-13 and lead the match 2-1.

Conroe got out to the fast start in Game 4 leading 10-6, however service and attack errors helped the Tigerettes gain momentum during the later stages of Game 4 as the War Eagles could not minimize the damage as Conroe won Game 4, 25-21.

Game 5 was as if, Oak Ridge turned on the light switch and they quickly ran out to a 10-4 lead. A couple of errors saw the Oak Ridge lead shrink at 12-8, however finished the match with three straight kills to take a 15-9 deciding game victory.

“In Game 4 we did nothing but tip, but they turned it around in Game 5 and dominated,” said Sledge.

The War Eagles will travel to A&M Consolidated (24-8, 2-1) for their next match-up on Friday, September 27th at 6:00pm.
