Surfset Houston offers unique way to get in shape

THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- There may not be any waves to catch here in our beautifully forested community, but thanks to Surfset Houston, you can train your body to be lean and strong like a surfer. Chris and Rina McNeill, owners of Surfset Houston, take exercising to a whole new level and they celebrated their official grand opening in their new location on October 5.

For those ready to "get on board," there are a variety of classes to choose from, and all of the Surfset trainers can teach one class to a variety of skill levels. While exercising on a surfboard strapped to stability balls you'll be strengthening your core, burning fat and building lean muscle. Not only will you enjoy a one-of-a-kind workout, you'll do it in a facility that instantly transports you into the laid back, fun attitude of being a surfer at the beach.

The new facility boasts 1,600 square feet and a 140-inch flat screen television that streams videos of waves.

"Chris and I saw Surfset Fitness on [the television show] "Shark Tank" one night and both looked at each other and said 'Cool, we should do this!'" Rina said. "So, I made a phone call the next day and we ordered 10 boards!"

After just the first call to local fitness trainers to find a location to teach the classes, Rina and Chris had a spot to temporarily call home. They were at their location on Budde Road for about two months and at that time only offered one class Monday through Thursday and Saturdays. Now, their location, clientele and class offerings have all grown.

"Chris and I love the concept," Rina said. "The core workout you get is very unique and you can not get it from doing anything else out there."

After just two months of Surfset, Rina has lost 10 pounds and Chris has lost 30.

"I fit into clothes I have not worn in years!" Rina said.

At Surfset, your first class is free. There are a variety of classes to choose from and times to fit your schedule. They offer bachelorette parties, birthdays, and soon will add a kids program. Friday nights are themed socials, so make sure to grab a friend and jump on board!
