THE WOODLANDS, Texas – It wasn’t for the district championship. It wasn’t for a playoff berth. But when Colton Farmer threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to Chance Givens on fourth down with 13 seconds left to play on Saturday at Woodforest Bank Stadium, it gave the College Park High School football team a 20-17 victory over Bryan and went a long way in salvaging the 2013 season.

Farmer threw for 236 yards and three touchdowns as the Cavaliers finished 5-5 overall and 2-4 in District 14-5A play. It wasn’t quite the season they’d hoped for but the dramatic finish gave a large group of seniors, Farmer and Givens included, something to remember.

It was a back-and-forth game all afternoon with Farmer throwing a 57-yard touchdown pass to Jayden Holden to give the Cavs a 7-3 first-quarter lead. He threw 13 yards to Chris Barnes late in the second quarter and College Park led 13-10 at halftime.

Holden finished with 95 yards on three pass receptions while Barnes added 39 more on three catches.

Bryan (2-8, 0-6) led 17-13 late in the third quarter and held that edge until the dramatic finish.

Nick Black led the Cavs’ ground game with 55 yards on 16 carries.

It was an even match statistically as well. Both teams registered 15 first downs and College Park held a slim 327-316 edge in total yards. The Cavs picked off two Vikings passes and turned over the ball once on a fumble.
