THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Senior Nicole Iademarco and The Woodlands High School girls’ basketball team defeated the Bryan Lady Vikings, 60-30, in District 14-5A action. Every player on The Woodlands (15-7, 6-0) roster saw the hardwood Friday night at The Woodlands High School.

Iademarco, a recent signee of Arizona State, lit up Bryan (9-6, 3-3) for 15 points and threw in four assists for good measure as the Lady Highlanders jumped out to a 13-2 lead and were never threatened.

Bryan could never get comfortable as The Lady Highlanders’ man-to-man defense and aggressive rebounding told. The Woodlands won the battle of the glass, 36-25. Payton Walker led the way with seven boards.

Coach Dana Bruton earned her 201st career victory in just her eighth year at The Woodlands helm. She was obviously pleased with her charges.

"We came out with some great defensive intensity and with the press we were able to make some adjustments and shut them down,” Bruton said. “We were able to keep them out of their transition game which they are real good at.

“Bryan also likes to throw over the top and we were able to keep their big kids off the boards. If you keep them from doing that it's going to be a successful night."

Joining Iademarco in the scoring column was Kristin Mahoney with 14 points. Walker had seven. Marxli Mettauer added six points with five rebounds. Tate Brons chimed in with five points. Alexis Heathcock and Ally Welling both had four points and five boards. Paulina (Pow) Bremer led the gym with six assists.

The Woodlands travels across town to play College Park at 7 p.m. Tuesday and are back home next Friday against Oak Ridge, going for their 33rd straight home district victory.
