THE WOODLANDS, Texas – How dominant has pitching been for The Woodlands High School softball team in the first three games of District 14-5A season?

Langkamp, Bartsch combine to no-hit Lufkin

Lady Highlanders Abby Langkamp and Caitlin Bartsch have combined to shut out all three opponents and in doing so have allowed a total of one hit.

The latest gem, a 10-0 five-inning no-hitter against Lufkin at home Friday, included four perfect innings from starter Langkamp (eight strikeouts). Bartsch finished off the Lady Panthers, who managed just one baserunner all night on a fifth-inning walk.

Langkamp opened district play by tossing a five-inning perfect game at Conroe.

“My best pitch is my curve, so I really made sure to get that one on tonight and basically go from there,” Langkamp said of her latest stellar outing.

“The pitching was excellent,” Lady Highlanders softball coach Richard Jorgensen said. “We didn’t have to play much defense.”

But after squeaking by with a 1-0 win at A&M Consolidated Thursday night, the No. 5 state-ranked Lady Highlanders did produce at the plate on Friday.

Kaitlyn Stavinoha helped lead the attack with two hits and two RBIs while Aubrey Leach added two hits and one RBI. Shelby Dublin contributed with a hit and also drove in a run. Sidney Salmans and Brittany Mann batted in a run apiece.

“I was real pleased with our aggressiveness at the plate, against a pretty good pitcher,” Jorgensen said. “We ran the bases great and hit the ball really well.”

The Woodlands (18-2, 3-0) visits Bryan on Tuesday.
