THE WOODLANDS, Texas - The Woodlands Highlander baseball team looked to continue their hot start in 2014, when they hosted Conroe in their district opener.

The Woodlands (14-3, 1-0) got the scoring started in the bottom of the first-inning when Chris Andritsos draws the first of three consecutive walks to load the bases for the Highlanders. Andritsos would later score on a pass ball to make it 1-0 Highlanders.

Conroe (4-13, 0-1) answered in the top of the second-inning with a 2-run homerun by first-baseman Jordan Fisher and Conroe takes a 2-1 lead in the middle of the second-inning.

The Highlanders would respond with four runs in the second-inning and two more in the third-inning to take a 7-2 lead. The Highlanders took advantage of 11 Conroe walks in the first three-innings.

The Highlanders continue to take advantage of even more Conroe mistakes when Colton Wardle draws a lead-off walk in the fifth-inning. Conroe then committed two-errors trying to catch Wardle stealing second-base, Wardle ends up scoring and it’s 8-2 Highlanders. A third Conroe error gets another Highlander run home, then Aaron Milone gets a double scoring Alex Hale and the Highlanders blow the doors open 10-2 on their way to a 12-2 district opening win over Conroe in six-innings.

With the win the Highlanders improve to 14-3 overall, now 1-0 in district play and will travel to A&M Consolidated on Thursday, March 13 at 7pm.
