SHENANDOAH, Texas - It was a soggy Woodforest Bank Stadium that hosted the final match of the 2013-14 season for The Woodlands High School girls' soccer team.

An upstart Atascocita Lady Eagles squad fought and scratched its way to a 3-2 shootout victory Thursday over the District 14-5A champion Lady Highlanders in a Region II-5A bi-district playoff match.

Atascocita scored first and last to claim the victory, taking a 1-0 lead just over 10 minutes into the match.

But the Lady Highlanders (16-6-1) answered and appeared to have wrestled the momentum away from the 13-5A playoff representative. Kelly Barbalias tied the match by converting a penalty kick just before halftime.

The Lady Highlanders stayed on the attack and gained its only lead of the match with a goal by Carmen Webster just under 10 minutes into the second half.

That lead held up until Atascocita tied the match with seven minutes remaining and the two teams went to overtime where nothing was decided.

Despite outshooting the Lady Eagles, 27-6 over regulation and overtime play, the Lady Highlanders' season was ended by a perfect shootout. The Lady Eagles made all five shots while The Woodlands was denied on its final attempt.

Atascocita moves on to the area round of the playoffs.
