THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- A longtime fixture on the Houston Golf scene, John Mahaffey has published his autobiography titled “Hogan’s Boy.”

The book recounts Mahaffey’s life in golf from his childhood in Kerrville, to his All American career at the University of Houston, through thirty years on the PGA Tour, up to his current post as a commentator for the Golf Channel.

The title, “Hogan’s Boy,” is derived from a comment made by Sam Snead that referred to the fact that the legendary Ben Hogan was Mahaffey’s mentor.

Mahaffey moved to the Houston area when he entered the University of Houston on a golf scholarship in 1966. He was an integral part of two NCAA winning teams in 1969 and 1970, winning the individual title in 1970 and was first team All American in both of those years.

Following his graduation from U of H, Mahaffey spent some time working at Champions Golf Club prior to qualifying for the PGA Tour in 1971. He lived in the 1960 area until the early 1980’s when he began a 20 year relationship with The Woodlands as their player representative on the Tour. He still maintains a residence in The Woodlands area. Mahaffey was inducted into the Texas Golf Hall of Fame in 1983.

The book was written with Mahaffey’s long time friend, John Caden, who is a former resident of the Houston area. The book is available from a number of outlets. For more information, visit its web site, www.hogansboy.com.
