LUFKIN, Texas – Caitlin Bartsch threw four innings of two-hit ball and Abby Langkamp finished up with three perfect innings of relief as The Woodlands High School softball team blanked Lufkin, 2-0, on the road Friday.

Bartsch yielded just two hits before Langkamp slammed the door, striking out five of the nine batters she faced.

The No. 5 state-ranked Lady Highlanders ran their win streak to 16 games and improved to 25-2 overall and 9-0 in District 14-5A play. The Woodlands has won 20 of its last 21 games.

Kaitlyn Stavinoha led the Lady Highlanders’ attack on Friday with three hits and both of the team’s RBIs, one in the first inning and another in the third. It proved to be all the support the dynamic duo of Bartsch and Langkamp would need.

Aubrey Leach added two hits and Langkamp delivered two more in addition to drawing a walk.

It was the 12th shutout recorded this season by Lady Highlanders pitching, including five in district play. No team in the district has scored more than one run in any game so far this season against The Woodlands’ pitching staff.

Three district games remain on the 2014 regular season schedule and then the slate is wiped clean as the playoffs begin.
