THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Supporting financial literacy can be as easy as enjoying a glass of cold lemonade.

The Woodlands Children’s Museum has joined in the community-wide educational program started by Houston-based nonprofit, Prepared 4 Life.

“Lemonade Day,” held across the greater Houston area on Sunday, May 4, is designed to give children a taste of owning and operating their own business – in this case, a lemonade stand.

The museum is an official registration site for Lemonade Day.

Through May 4, children may stop by the museum, sign up and pick up free workbooks that will help prepare them for a day as an entrepreneur.

Families may stop by the museum for a glass of fresh-squeezed lemonade from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, April 18 and Saturday, April 19, as well as on Tuesday, April 29.

Kara Portilla, outreach coordinator, said the museum is eager to stand with the national effort to help children become more business savvy.

“Lemonade Day teaches children from kindergarten to 12th grade how to start and run their own business,” she explained. “It’s a great way to learn about all aspects of being an entrepreneur -- expenses, profit, marketing and more are learned through the experience.”
