THE WOODLANDS, Texas – It wasn’t the way the Woodlands Strykers wanted to open the 2014 season.

The defending Texas Collegaite League champion Brazos Valley Bombers broke up a pitcher’s duel on Sunday with two runs in the seventh and two more in the ninth inning for a 4-0 victory, completing a two-game sweep of the Strykers who dropped all three home openers at Strykers Stadium on the campus of The Woodlands Christian Academy.

The Bombers tallied two unearned runs in the seventh inning off Strykers’ starter Nolan Holland, who struck out five, walked just one, and scattered five hits over seven quality innings of work. Kael Jones also threw well in relief, retiring two batters in the ninth.

But Holland’s efforts were wasted as four Bombers pitchers combined to limit the Strykers to just three hits - all singles.

The Woodlands Christian Academy grad Garrett Lozano came up with two of those. Kevin Santana added the other. Santana is batting .429 for the season, fourth-best in the league. Lozano raised his average to an even-.300, which is also among the top 15 hitters in the league.

The Strykers hit the road for the first time this season, visiting the East Texas Pump Jacks for games on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Strykers return home to entertain the Texas Marshals on Thursday and Friday. All games begin at 7:05 p.m.
