Summer gets blazing with 7-on-7
SPRING, Texas - Summer is here, temperatures are up and that means it’s time for 7-on-7 football. Two local rivals, College Park and Oak Ridge, got a glimpse of what may be in store for each other this fall. A 7-on-7 game offers each team the chance to build chemistry and develop a rapport for the upcoming season.
7-on-7 is played with skill position players with no pads and is similar to flag football. The game is played with two 20-minute halves with a running clock and a five-minute halftime.
7-on-7 also gives the players a chance to get an early jump on preseason conditioning and hone in on offensive and defensive strategies.
College Park and Oak Ridge are both working towards qualifying for the 7-on-7 state tournament, played in College Station on July 11-12. The Woodlands has already qualified for the state tournament.
League play continues for two more weeks at various area sites, at which point 7-on-7 ends and conditioning begins.
Local teams will be in conditioning through July before reporting to preseason camp on August 4.
