ORIGINAL STORY:

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas -- As the public anxiously awaits to see who the lucky duck was, Montgomery County Emergency Assistance(MCEA) is cross-referencing the numbers to make a list of the winners, and trying contact them over the holiday weekend, before posting the list to their website.

“We’re making calls and leaving messages, but we really want to notify all the winners, before posting the list online,” said Margie Taylor, Director of Marketing and Development.

The 7th annual Great American Duck Race, held July 4th at the Rob Fleming Aquatic Center in the Creekside Village in The Woodlands, was the most successful to date, per Taylor.

“We floated 5,760 ducks this year, that’s 760 more than last year, that’s 96% of our goal,” said Taylor. “We raised the goal this year, by 1000 more ducks. The public really came out in a big way for this year’s duck race.”

Every duck sold helps a family in crisis transition to self-sufficiency. The county fundraiser directly helps families in Montgomery County, and does so with a wide variety of services which includes utility bills, food, clothing, and more. Taylor said the formation of more teams this year, both personal and corporate, helped in exceeding last year’s goal.

"This year we really wanted to get the message out that every duck adoption helps a family," said MCEA Executive Director, Chad Patterson,

Apparently the message was loud and clear.

“The Duck Race event gets bigger every year. More families came out to participate in the race, we had the Montgomery County Fire Chief’s Association Honor Guard to officially start the event with the National Anthem,” said Taylor.

The incomparable, Mary Ellen Keating, sang the “Star Spangled Banner.” The public may remember Keating from the starring role in the Patsy Cline production presented by the Crighton Theatre periodically to sell-out shows. Season tickets to the Stage Right Theatre were one of the many wonderful prizes donated to MCEA for the Duck Race.

“We had a bigger contribution of prizes this year too,” said Taylor.

In addition to the Camaro donated by Buckalew Chevrolet, La Torretta Lake Resort and Spa contributed a summer gift package for four to their water park, the Greater Conroe/Lake Conroe Area Chamber of Commerce donated Lobsterfest tickets, from Dillard’s...a Michael Kor’s handbag and wristwatch, Astros and Dynamos tickets, just to name a few.

To see if you’re a winner, check the Montgomery County Emergency Assistance website for a listing of the top 100 winners which will be posted after the cross-referencing process is complete. MCEA asks for your indulgence while that go through the extensive process. Winners will receive a phone call, but to view the list of the winners, click on Montgomery County Emergency Assistance.
