Seven Strykers named to the 2014 TCL All-Star team

THE WOODLANDS, Texas- The Woodlands Strykers are proud to announce their All-Star participating players for this year: Cody Clarke, Spence Rahm, Mark Whitehead, Kevin Santana, Andrew Godail, Nolan Holland, and Gandy Stubblefield. These players exhibit exceptional talent on the field, and are well worthy of the opportunity to compete in the TCL All-Star game this Tuesday, July 8.

The Bombers will be hosting this year’s game at Cellucor Field in Brazos Valley with a North vs. South setup; the Bombers will group with the East Texas Pump Jacks and Texas Marshals to comprise a North team, while the Acadiana Cane Cutters, Woodlands Strykers, and Victoria Generals will comprise the South team. Qualifications for the All-Star participation include the fourteen highest batting average hitters, seven highest RBI hitters, and all leaders in wins, strikeouts, and innings pitched.

Seven Strykers players qualify for the South All-Star team this season, representing four pitchers (Spence Rahm, Andrew Godail, Nolan Holland, and Gandy Stubblefield), two infielders (Cody Clarke and Kevin Santana), and one outfielder (Mark Whitehead).

Infielder (1B and 3B) Cody Clarke enters the All-Star game with a .265 batting average thus far for the Strykers. A native of Rogersford, PA, he spends his college career at Cisco College, where he bats .342 with 29 RBI’s in 49 games played. Clarke has produced 13 RBI’s for the Strykers as well as one homerun and 26 hits in total.

Righty pitcher/first baseman Spence Rahm has contributed 13 RBI’s and two homeruns for the Stryker offense, batting .284 overall this season. A native of Tomball, TX, Rahm earned All-District first baseman at Tomball High School, where he also lettered in basketball. He plays for Sam Houston State, and batted .250 this past 2014 season.

Outfielder Mark Whitehead from San Antonio, TX enters the All-Star game with a .264 batting average for this summer, contributing 24 hits for the Strykers and one homerun. He plays for the Incarnate Word Cardinals, where he batted .266 this past 2014 season. Whitehead had an impressive high school career at Johnson High School, where he hit .433 as a senior with 24 stolen bases. He currently has 20 stolen bases for the Strykers, demonstrating a great deal of speed around the bases.

Infielder Kevin Santana currently leads the TCL with 24 RBI’s this season; he enters the All-Star game with a .243 batting average and versatile playing ability- including starts as catcher, infielder, and outfielder. Santana started his college career at McNeese State and Blinn College; he currently plays for Lamar, where he led the team with a .300 batting average this past season. Santana is a Puerto Rico native, and emerged from Cy-Fair High School in Cypress, Texas.

Sam Houston State pitcher Andrew Godail currently leads the TCL with 39 strikeouts, and exhibits a 2.70 ERA. He earned the Dinger Bats TCL pitcher of the week in week three of the season. His current record is split 2-2 thus far this summer season.

Right-handed pitcher Nolan Holland currently displays an impressive 1.21 ERA for the Strykers, pitching seven games in total. He has struck out 18 batters, and allowed only nine walks for this summer season. The Spring, TX native pitches for Texas A&M Corpus Christi, and played high school ball for Klein Oak High School.

Aggies pitcher Gandy Stubblefield is another Stryker TCL Pitcher of the Week, earning this title in week two of the season. Stubblefield has a 2-1 record with the Strykers and an impressively low 0.87 ERA throughout ten games this summer. He has earned 33 strikeouts and only 7 walks thus far. This Luftkin, TX native played for Luftkin High School and now plays alongside brother Tyler Stubblefield at Texas A&M.

These Strykers players have contributed significantly to their college and summer-ball teams, and the Woodlands Strykers organization wishes them the best of luck in this week’s All-Star game. They represent both the Strykers and TCL League well through all of their accomplishments on the baseball diamond.
