THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- As the end of summer approaches, school will soon be in session. The Texas tax-free weekend falls on August 8-10, 2014. This three-day tax holiday will help when buying school supplies and clothing for the new school year. During these dates the following qualifying items will be tax-free:

Clothing, footwear, backpacks, and school supplies are tax exempt. Each individual item needs to be under $100, however the total bill for all items can be over $100. For example, you can buy two shirts for $80 each and they are both tax exempt even though the total bill is $160. For a complete list of qualifying clothing, footwear, and other items click here.

School supplies and backpacks are a must for your kids going off to school, so it’s a great time to buy. All backpacks under $100 are covered. Luggage, briefcases, computer cases, gym bags, and purses are not included and are not tax exempt. For a complete list of qualifying school supplies click here.

So mark your calendar and make your back-to-school shopping list, checking it twice for qualifying items.
