THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Met with standing crowds and respectful applause, the flag detail and float of The Woodlands American Legion Post & Unit 305 that carried more than 20 veterans from the various conflicts from Korea to the present day walked proudly in The Woodlands Fourth of July parade.

“We have participated in this parade since its conception, so to win first place – and for Most Patriotic Float – is an incredible feeling,” said Peter Koch, Post Commander of The Woodlands American Legion Post 305. “In the past it was hard to get our veterans to join us in the parade. This year, we were able to get more than 40 veterans and their families to show up and participate. Having all of us together to show support for this country is what makes the award such an honor.”

Koch joined the Navy right after high school and during the end of the Korean War. He served 22 proud years, retiring in 1976 as a Master Chief Petty Officer (E-9). Today, Koch serves as Post Commander of The Woodlands American Legion Post 305, Adjutant of the District 7 American Legion and volunteers at St. Luke’s Hospital.
