MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas -- Marilyn Kasmiersky has been selected as the “Woman of the Year” by the Texas Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences of Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. Kasmiersky, Business Development Director with Lone Star Family Health Center, was selected for her involvement in making life better for the families of Montgomery County and beyond.

“Marilyn's commitment to families, our community and Extension work is truly impressive” said Amy Ressler, County Extension Agent-Family and Consumer Sciences, who nominated Marilyn for the award. “She is always looking for ways to help people and includes Extension at any level possible. She helps with our nutrition education classes, involves us in breast cancer awareness initiatives, promotes our diabetes education, includes child passenger safety education in events and uses Extension curriculum to teach family self-sufficiency to adults in need. She utilizes every opportunity to teach and promote health and safety for families. She includes Extension at various points in health fair and educational initiative offered at Lone Star Family Health Center, our community health center. We are very fortunate to have her as a partner,” said Ressler.

Marilyn is a loyal member of the advisory committee for Montgomery County’s Family and Consumer Sciences with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension. She worked with Extension on one of the very first "Friend to Friend" breast cancer awareness grants, and then continued to include Extension in the "Get Your Pink On" campaign when funding shifted. Her community involvement makes her a networking hub with connections all over Montgomery County. Her contributions strengthen the Extension program through her advocacy and praise for Extension's work.

Marilyn is very involved in the other community work in the county as well including serving on several councils of United Way and the Healthy Living Alliance, in addition to two terms as team leader on the Health Care Cabinet. She also serves on the Health Care committee for both Conroe and The Woodlands Chambers of Commerce. She is a member of the Montgomery County Association of Business Women, American Heart Association, Light the Night Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Executive committee, and Executive Women’s Alliance. Marilyn has also been a presenter for the Leadership Montgomery County.

Marilyn will be honored at the upcoming annual meeting of the association in downtown Bryan, Texas, on July 29. The “Woman of the Year” is one of very few awards given outside of the association membership. The award honors women, in counties across Texas, who serve as advocates for Extension and make a positive impact in the lives of families.
