THE WOODLANDS, Texas - On August 8 and 9, Cirque du Soleil’s Michael Jackson THE IMMORTAL World Tour will be performing at the Toyota Center, where the show combines dance, visuals and music to portray Michael Jackson’s music and choreography, paying homage to the late pop star. The driving force behind the show is the inspirational and memorable music and lyrics, along with unforgettable performances, sending Michael Jackson’s global messages of love, peace and unity.

Houston's own Terrance Harrison is among the performers.

The show’s stop in Houston will be its final destination in The United States before it travels to Mexico. The crew of Soleil’s Michael Jackson THE IMMORTAL World Tour travels internationally to perform for crowds in many countries, but for one member of the traveling show, Houston is a special destination: it’s his home town.

Originally from Houston, Terrance Harrison has always had a passion for dance and gymnastics. Inspired by the music and dance videos on MTV and VH1 when he was boy, Harrison became serious about wanting to learn tumbling and dance and taught himself how to street tumble.

“I could not afford gymnastics as a kid,” said Harrison. “So when it would come on the television, I would just watch it over and over until I could recite the entire program.”

Harrison’s drive and passion was quickly apparent and by the age of 13, he started working with the Houston Rockets as part of a half time act. He was quick to invest in gymnastics classes at Texas Lonestar Cheer Company and also Cypress Gymnastics Academy, where he had the opportunity to train with Olympians.

With professional experience under his belt, Harrison moved to Los Angeles where he where he danced with renowned artists such as Kanye West OutKast, and was also featured in many music videos and films including Bring it On/All or Nothing, 17 Again, and Step Up 3D. After pursuing his career for four years in California, Harrison was contacted by Cirque du Soleil in 2008, inviting him to perform for the company.

Now, Harrison has been performing Cirque du Soleil’s Michael Jackson THE IMMORTAL World Tour for three years, his second show with the entertainment company. The Houston native plays many roles during the show, including an acrobat, dancer, and Bubbles, Michael Jackson’s favorite chimpanzee.

“As Bubbles, I play with the crowds for a little bit. He has a little swag and has to dance and tumble,” said Harrison. “During the live show there is instant gratification of being in that moment. It is so different and intense. You can certainly feel the energy and excitement. It is an adrenaline rush.”

For Harrison, his favorite part about being involved with the company is the diversity.

“It is such a huge melting pot,” said Harrison. “I am in love with diversity, and I love learning from other people.“

With the show ending its tour in The United States, Harrison is excited to finish in his hometown.

“I am very excited to perform in Houston,” said Harrison. “It is a great place to close the show. For me it is really awesome because I get to finish it in my hometown. It will be an emotional circle for me.
