The Woodlands Strykers season ended tonight with a tough 4-3 loss to the Victoria Generals. While the Strykers (18-40) did not make the postseason, they finished the season winning three games in their last week of action.

Leading the way for the Strykers this summer was Sam Houston State lefty Spence Rahm. Rahm finished fourth in the Texas Collegiate League with a batting average of .310 (54-174). The 6’5, 220lb first baseman also blasted five home runs, finishing in a tie for second in the league with fellow teammate Greg Belton. Also helping with the power this summer was shortstop Kevin Santana, who finished tied for fourth in the league with four home runs and second in RBI’s with 32.

Finishing the season strong on the bump for the Strykers was pitcher Jack Finnegan. In his last three outings he went at least six innings, allowing two earned runs or less and striking out at least six batters in each contest. He also lead the team for the summer with 56.2 innings pitched, and was one strikeout short of the league high with 61. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi pitcher Nolan Holland led the way for the Strykers in ERA, throwing a total of 39.1 innings while allowing a total of eight earned runs, giving him an ERA of 1.83.

“Tonight is a little bittersweet,” said head coach John Villarreal. “On the one hand it’s the end of a long season, but the other side wants to keep playing.”

The Strykers will break for the school year and regroup for the 2015 summer league. Though nothing is confirmed, the league would like to add two new teams for that season with Waco, Texas and Shreveport, Louisiana as possible destinations.
