Woodlands Christian embraces blended digital learning environment for new school year

THE WOODLANDS, Texas - The 2014-2015 school year at Woodlands Christian will look remarkably different as the school embraces a blended digital learning environment (DLE). All students from pre-kindergarten through high school will now be equipped with either an Apple MacBook or an iPad. Experts agree that educational institutions at all levels should equip teachers to leverage technology in their classrooms, exploit technology to create a multi-faceted student assessment and learning systems and, utilize vast technological resources to enable excellent teachers to reach more students through dynamic and ever-changing learning environments.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, 65% of today’s school children will eventually be employed in jobs that have yet to be created. What does that mean for educators? How do we prepare a generation for careers we have never seen? Woodlands Christian has the answer! Their shift to start focusing on competencies and not on specific career paths will enable both students and teachers to focus more on investigation, collaboration, critical thinking and problem solving. “We are currently preparing students for jobs that don’t yet exist . . . for technologies that haven’t been invented . . . in order to solve problems we don’t even know are problems yet,” says Julie Ambler, Head of School.

Woodlands Christian is adapting to an ever-changing world by creating a blended DLE that will prepare students to enter college and career with the potential to create and invent as prominent, innovative, Christian leaders. Students in pre-kindergarten will be furnished with iPads while students the elementary and high school grades will receive MacBooks.
