Cooper Faculty Take Ice Bucket Challenge

THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Things were a little chilly on campus the day before the first day of the 2014-15 school year at The John Cooper School. Lower School (grades PK-5) co-curricular teachers and their assistants, along with Head of Lower School Shirley Berdecio, took on the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge on the afternoon of August 20. The group was challenged by the JCLS News Team made up of fifth grade students who report and broadcast news each school day.

Student Newscasters Extend New Challenge


"The JCLS News team was curious to know the origins of the ALS Bucket Challenge, so they researched and found some great information to educate themselves about this worthy cause," said Lower School educational technology teacher Katherine Navarra.

"The news team shared their findings through the JCLS News broadcast," she said. "At the same time, the Lower School co-curricular teachers, and Head of Lower School Shirley Berdecio, took on the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge." the cold, wet experience, the JCLS students and teachers made their own challenge:

"We challenge the John Cooper School to learn about different issues and concerns facing those around you and taking a stand to do what you can to help. There are so many people in our community facing different challenges. Some of these challenges you might want to research and find more information about are ALS, Cancer, Multiple Sclerosis, Diabetes, Muscular Dystrophy, Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease."
