With start of new school year, Milstead reminds parents of no text, phone zones

SPRING (August 25, 2014) – With school starting in the majority of school districts this week, Amy Milstead of Milstead Automotive & Collision wants to remind parents not to talk, text and drive, especially in school zones.

“Community safety is our core focus at Milstead,” said Amy Milstead, president of Milstead Automotive. “People often forget, especially at the beginning of the school year, that talking and/or texting on cell phones while driving in a school zone or on school grounds is against the law.”

If you are caught talking and texting in a school zone, you can receive a fine of up to $200. Conroe ISD police also have the authority to write tickets for the offense.

Generally, the school zones indicated on the signs should be in effect only during the following specified intervals:


from approximately 45 minutes before school opens until classes begin

from the beginning to the end of the lunch period

for a 30 minute period beginning at the close of school.

Milstead also spearheads Milstead’s Video Ambassador Campaign in Montgomery County high schools against texting and driving each year.
