HOUSTON, Texas — Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 16, individuals and groups of all ages and fitness levels will begin a 27-day “Miracle Marathon” to improve their own health while supporting their local Children's Miracle Network Hospital, which in Houston is Texas Children’s Hospital.

“We’re excited to offer a marathon that is accessible to all, with benefits that extend beyond the participants,” says John Lauck, president and CEO of Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. “While consistent exercise will boost each Miracle Marathoner’s well-being, the greatest impact will be on local children. Miracle Marathon supporters will truly make a difference for kids relying on member hospitals to provide life-saving care.”

Miracle Marathon is a 27.2-day virtual fundraising campaign in which participants move the equivalent of one mile per day — through any activity they choose — from Sept. 16 to Oct. 12. The first 26 days are completed at a time and place convenient for each participant. On the final day, all participants will complete the final 1.2 miles and finish the 27.2-mile Miracle Marathon.. It’s a marathon, plus an extra mile for the kids.

Participants will receive daily challenges, inspirational stories or motivational messages throughout the event encouraging them to meet their fitness and fundraising goals. A personal donation page and blog for each Miracle Marathoner will also be set up to track progress and share stories. Individuals are challenged to not only move one mile per day, but also to raise approximately $10 per day for a Children’s Miracle Network Hospital of their choosing. Fundraising incentives are available to participants for achieving certain milestones.
