THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Hearing loss is the most prevalent injury affecting current and former military members, and according to the Department of Veteran’s Affairs, a full 60 percent of Americans coming back from service in Iraq and Afghanistan suffer from hearing loss. Local middle-ear hearing implant manufacturer Ototronix will host a Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Day luncheon on Sept. 29 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to honor those who have served in our nation’s military and bring awareness to the issues of veterans’ hearing loss.

“A lot of our warriors are coming back with hearing loss,” says Michael Spearman, CEO of Ototronix, located in The Woodlands, Texas. “Many of them are blast victims, which can affect the inner ear.”

Hearing loss and ringing in the ears are the two most prevalent health-related issues for veterans, and the Veteran’s Affairs Administration anticipates that it will spend $2.26 billion in 2014 on expenditures for hearing loss and ringing in the ears alone.Ototronix will offer free hearing screenings during the VFW Day luncheon at its office and manufacturing facility in The Woodlands, using Ototronix’s cutting edge Otogram diagnostic technology. This five-minute process can show whether a person may be suffering from hearing loss. A more thorough hearing examination is required to effectively decide if a patient could benefit from treatment.

Ototronix not only manufactures diagnostic equipment to test hearing, but has created a revolutionary middle-ear hearing implant for the treatment of hearing loss. Patients who receive Ototronix’s MAXUM can experience more amplification and better sound quality than hearing aids. Unlike cochlear implants which result in the loss of some or all residual hearing, MAXUM is implanted during a 30- to 45-minute minimally invasive procedure. During the procedure, a tiny magnetic device is attached to the stapes bone of the middle ear. This magnet works with a processor in the outer ear to mimic the ear’s natural manner of hearing and improve a patient’s ability to hear conversational speech.

VFW Day attendees will enjoy a complimentary lunch, as well as speakers on veterans' issues. Ototronix will provide goody bags to veterans in attendance and a door prize for one lucky member of the audience.

Veterans who are interested in attending Ototronix’s VFW Day luncheon should RSVP by calling 1-855-MYMAXUM (696-2986) or sending an email to rsvpmaxum@gmail.com by Friday, Sept 26, 2014.
