THE WOODLANDS, Texas - All area highs school (public, private, homeschool) student photographers in Montgomery County have an opportunity to share their photography talents in the 2nd Annual Photography Contest sponsored by Because Art Matters, the year-round community and educational outreach arm of The Woodlands Waterway Arts Council (WWAC).

The subject theme for 2014 is TEXAS SKIES. This contest gives you a chance to put your photography skills to the test and capture the Texas Sky at its best. Whether it be rural, urban skyscape, landscape or just clouds... Capture the beautiful colors, shapes and textures in the Texas sky!

The contest is open to 9– 12th grade students, in Montgomery County. New in 2014, all entries will be submitted online at http://www.WoodlandsWaterwayArtsCouncil.org. Deadline for the contest is at Midnight on Saturday, October 18, 2014.

Sonya Hillman, WWAC Board member and one of the original founders of the event said, "We are very excited to offer this opportunity for young photographers to display their talent, this is all about the art of seeing and being able to creatively notice the right moment as well as giving it an artistic treatment, and showcasing the beauty of the Texas Skies!"

A judging committee, made up of professional photographers, will select the top three photos from the total entries received. Winning entries will be awarded $100 for first place, $75 for second place, $50 for third place, and a new Honorable Mention category this year for $25. Thanks to the generosity of The Woodlands Mall for donating the gift cards this year.

All photos will be displayed and judged on Saturday, October 25, 2014, from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Because Art Matters Spotlight on the Arts Gallery in The Woodlands Mall, across from the Carousel on the second floor. Winning photos will be on display at the Gallery for approximately one year.
