Culinary Historian, Dr. Timko, documents historical Italian Renaissance cuisine at LSC-Montgomery

THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Culinary Historian Dr. Merrianne Timko will document the history of cuisine in cities such as Florence, Rome, and Venice during the Renaissance at her lecture on Tuesday, October 14, at noon, as part of Lone Star College-Montgomery's Lyceum Speaker’s Series.

Dr. Timko, who works as the data standards manager for The Museum of Fine Arts Houston, will also be featured at an 11:30 a.m. reception that same day, just prior to her presentation. The reception and lecture, which are free to the public, will take place in the Music Hall (Building H), on the LSC-Montgomery campus.

Dr. Timko’s discussion, “Food and Banqueting in Renaissance Italy: A Modern Perspective,” will provide a fascinating overview of the foods and wines consumed by the nobility and papacy, the staging of elaborate banquets, and the introduction of new world foods.

Dr. Timko has 25 years of experience and education in art history and an extensive background in culinary research. She has published numerous articles on culinary subjects and frequently lectures and presents at events worldwide.

LSC-Montgomery’s Lyceum Speaker’s Series provides a variety of free presentations throughout the fall and spring semesters based on sociological, historical, economical, political, psychological, and spiritual views.
