THE WOODLANDS, Texas - York Junior High theater class will present the play Orphan Trains on Wednesday, Nov. 12, Thursday, Nov. 13 and Friday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. in the York Junior High cafeteria. The country’s last orphan train stopped in Sulphur Springs, Texas in 1929.

From 1854 to 1929, more than 300,000 orphans and homeless children were transported by train from New York City to points West and South. Some children were adopted by families, while others experienced separation from their siblings and lived their lives as indentured servants.

York theater class students have chosen to make this play a benefit for Buckner Children’s Services. Play proceeds will go toward school supplies and Christmas presents for local children in foster care.

Tickets will be available at the door and are $4 for adults and $2 for children.
