THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Houston Methodist broke ground Tuesday on its newest hospital, a 193-bed full service hospital in The Woodlands.

In a ceremony at the site of the new hospital, Marc Boom, M.D., president and CEO of Houston Methodist, was joined by The Woodlands United Methodist Church Senior Pastor Ed Robb, Ewing Werlein, Jr., chairman of the Houston Methodist board, Debbie Sukin, the CEO of Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital, and Bruce Tough, chairman of The Woodlands Township board of directors.

“As the Houston region grows, so must Houston Methodist so that we can continue to deliver our unique brand of health care to all Houstonians,” said Boom. “This is why Houston Methodist is investing more than $1 billion in expanding and replacing our facilities throughout the Houston area over the next three years.”

At the ceremony, guests were given a small bottle of soil to pour around a young live oak tree, which will be cared for until it is planted at Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital when it opens in 2017.

The $328 million campus will be built at the intersection of TX 242 and I-45. A 135,000 square foot medical office building will be complete in late 2015. Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital will be the eighth hospital in the Houston Methodist system and will be modeled after the Houston Methodist West Hospital near Katy.

“As a resident of The Woodlands for more than 10 years, I’m excited that my neighbors and I will soon have access to Houston Methodist care in our community,” Sukin said. “I believe passionately in developing the best that health care has to offer and look forward to delivering our brand of excellence to The Woodlands.”
